Hello! It's Kenneth and Mel writing to you from Berlin. Our first stop today was the Olympiastadion in Berlin for the 1936 olympics and then renovated for the 2006 world cup in soccer. It was awesome!! We went to an exhibition first and then walked through the stadium itself. It was REALLY cold out, not as bad as home... but pretty darn close! We then stopped by the hotel for some traditional German food. We ate red cabbage, beef, and butterspätzle. Next, we took a guided tour of Eastern Berlin from a local guide named Heike. We saw Checkpoint Charlie which was one of the checkpoints throught the Berlin wall during the cold war. Also, we saw the Topography of Terror which were where the Gestapo, SS, and the Reichssicherheitshauptamt had its headquarters. There was also poster boards describing the history. We saw the Berlin Wall-- what is left of it, and the jewish memorial. Heike showed us many other sites and talked about Berlin's history. The night was free to do as we pleased!
