Our Olympic Quest Trip made us into early morning risers as we set off on our adventure through the Alps at 7:30 a.m. (our time). Our first destination was traveling to explore the Neuschwanstein Castle, near the town of Hohenschwangau. The castle was built by King Ludwig II in the mid-nineteenth century. It was under construction for 13 years when unfortunately King Ludwig died at the early age of 40, leaving only 1/3 of the castle complete.The castle was placed across from another castle where Ludwig grew up. We had the opportunity to park our bus in the parking lot right between these magnificent sctructures. Students had the choice between taking a horse-drawn carriage up the mountain path to the castle or tackle the long trek by foot. Most chose to walk and got their sweat on! The view of the snow covered mountain side was breathtaking, as the early morning fog had lifted. The castle looked like it was right out of a fairy tale, coincidentally the castle was a template for the Walt Disney Castle. The second half of the day, we traveled through the Alps to Innsbruck, Austria and saw the ski jump that was used in the 1976 Winter Olympics. Amazing views of the Alps prompted many photos taken by the students. It was another jam-packed day of history and once-in-a-lifetime experiences! We miss you and hope all is well!
